I only have a root "/" and a swap (page file) partition when I set up my server. one time i had to increase my LVM partition size via command line it took me like 1 hour and a bunch of commands. I believe LVM was created to get around the max number of partitions issue. Maybe I just dont know enough about it, but it seems overly complex for most situations. I hate LVM when it comes time to manage partitions. I'd just reinstall ubuntu-server and not use LVM. I've asked on the Ubuntu subreddit but thought I'd ask here too given the wealth of Plex expertise. My question is this (not even sure I'm asking correctly): how do I enlarge the partition? Or is there something else I should do? I've spent a lot of time on the Ubuntu Community Wiki & on the online help pages but I can't seem to find the right solution. When setting up I told Ubuntu to use LVM (as you can tell from gparted). As you can see, there are at least two locations that are 100% used. Here is a screenshot of the CLI df command. Here is a screenshot of my gparted status. I literally watched free space disappear as Plex indexed & downloaded metadata for the movies & TV shows in my library.
Now I don't think I did that right since Ubuntu is telling me I'm out of drive space. My problem is this: when I set up Ubuntu originally a couple of weeks ago I thought I set up a 30GB partition for the filesystem & the remaining 470+/- GB on the 500GB drive would be available for data, etc. Anyway, I've spent the last few days figuring out (finally!) how to mount the Synology drive that has the video files & I have done so successfully. It's about time for me to learn a second OS, & I figured this would be a perfect opportunity. I'm brand new to Ubuntu, having used Windows for the last 20+ years. I currently am running CouchPotato, SickRage, and Transmission on the NAS but plan to migrate those over to the TS140 as well eventually. I'm going to use the Synology as just a media library for movies, TV shows, music and photos, with Plex on the TS140 accessing just the movies and TV shows.
The TS140 came with a 500GB hard drive and 4GB RAM, so I added 16GB RAM for a total of 20GB and installed Ubuntu 14.04. Background: I recently bought a Lenovo TS140 Xeon to be my Plex server, moving from my Synology DS213+ since it doesn't have enough horsepower to transcode.
